Mzansi joined forces to celebrate Freedom Day by taking part in the national anthem challenge.

Thousands of South African voices together with celebrities have recorded themselves performing the national anthem, in what can now be seen as a powerful homage to the country for acquiring freedom

KB Mamosadi, Tumi Morake, Busiswa, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Moonchild Sanelly and Proverb joined legions of South Africans to celebrate the country's freedom in unison.

For the past few weeks, people have been sending videos following the success of the anthem challenge. In an attempt to make history, organizers tasked themselves to make the largest rendition of the anthem being sung by people across the country.

The creativity does not stop there, the performers are seemingly placed to reflect the national flag.

Speaking to TshisaLive, the organising team member James Bassingthwaighte commended participants for singing the anthem so proudly, and acknowledged their bravery.

"It took a significant amount of bravery to put yourself on the spot and perform an anthem in five different languages to a video camera and more than a thousand ordinary South Africans rose to the challenge," he said.

The challenge also comes at the perfect time where the world is faced with the current COVID-19 outbreak. It also serves as a prayer for the nation to get through this difficult time.
