South African singer, Mthandazo Gatya reflects on his duet with John Legend. This comes as Legend shares a clip on Instagram of the TikTok open verse challenge for one of his latest singles 'Nervous' in which Gatya sang in Zulu. The single forms part of his new album titled 'Legend'.

Mthandazo Gatya and John Legend first met after the South African musician shared his version of Legend's open verse challenge on TikTok. The video quickly gained attraction and was recognized by Legend. Within a few days, the two musicians shared the stage in South Africa as they performed the viral duet.

This time round, it was John Legend who shared a post on Instagram showcasing the open verse challenge and the duet performance. This was done in the format of the popular trend; 'how it started' vs 'how it's going'. In the caption of the post, he wrote 'The power of the internet! And participating in my open verse challenge for #Nervous 👀'

Gatya reshared Legend’s post onto his Instagram page with the caption,

Post the tags from John Legend, the South African musician also shared more about the story behind the first performance and the suit he wore for it in a Twitter thread. The experience was a surprise and he had to find a suit at the nearest mall because it was too short notice for a designer.
