Jakarumba, Mshoza, Lady Zamar, Busiswa and King Monada were just some of the artists to score big on the nomination list for the fourth annual Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards (MKHMA).

The awards had added two new categories this year – Best Upcoming New Age Kwaito Artist and Best New Upcoming Gqom Artist – on top of their usual 20 categories

However last night's awards offered us an unexpected highlight which was the honouring of musicians Sho Madjozi, Cassper Nyovest and Lady Zamar as legends. They were acknowledged for putting their best foot forward in building on the culture of Kwaito and Mzansi House music sounds with their unique interpretations of the genres.

Sho Madjozi who has in recent weeks seen much excitement in her career due to her hit song John Cena, also got an early Christmas present, she was awarded Best Gqom Artist her Limpopo Champions League album.

Cassper in the next two weeks will be doing his "homecoming" Fill Up series in his hometown of Mafikeng. The series has set a tone in the Mzansi music scene and is a trend no other artist has been able to successfully copycat.

No wonder these artists are being recognised while still young.
