Mzansi Magic has announced that it will be bidding farewell to the riveting award-winning telenovela, DiepCity. The series will conclude with its current second season – the final episode will air on 3 March 2023, ending the show on a triumphant 240-episode run.
As Mzansi Magic continues to keep up with the ever-evolving tastes and viewing patterns of audiences, the channel and business will maintain a working relationship Black Brain Pictures, the production house behind DiepCity. Other past collaborations with the company include the acclaimed dramas Vula Vala and Lockdown.

Acclaimed by audiences and described by critics as heartbreaking, irreverent and riveting, the expansive DiepCity is set in the Johannesburg township of Diepsloot. It follows the lives of residents as they walk the line between poverty and prosperity, legality and crime, and the impact the decisions they make have on them and their loved ones.

Its cast includes both celebrated names and up-and-comers: Mduduzi Mabaso, Dawn Thandeka King, Nozuko Ncayiyane, Nompumelelo Vilakazi, Hamilton Dhlamini, Vele Manenje, Obed Baloyi, Lebohang Mpyana, Zikhona Bali and Kgaogelo Monama are just some of the actors who have graced the show.

DiepCity was a massive winner at the 2021 Royalty Soapie Awards, taking home seven gongs including Outstanding Daily Drama, just months after its premiere. It has been nominated for 10 South African Film and Television Awards this year, with the ceremony taking place next month. The series has also consistently earned praise for its stunning cinematography and incredible soundtrack.

Since its debut in April 2021, DiepCity has added colour, life and heart to our channel, and it has continued to give us dynamic and enthralling storylines. We would like to thank the production, cast and crew for their commitment to the series, dedication to their craft and consistent hard work,” says Shirley Adonisi, Director of Local Entertainment Channels at M-Net.

In a statement released by Black Brain, the production company said the show was slated for two years and the contract is nearing its end.

"DiepCity has always been envisaged to be two years production in partnership with Mzansi Magic and now the contract is nearing its end. A deliberate and strategic move by Mzansi Magic, to offer viewers a dynamic show that would keep them glued to their screens and secure that slot," read part of the statement.

Black Brain Creative Director Mandla N has thanked avid watchers of the show for making it a success."DiepCity has been hit on South African television and has introduced audiences to unique characters who have resonated strongly with fans. DiepCity fans have played a big role in the success of the show over the past two years and we are thankful for their support," he said.
