Initially posted by professional American athletes and sports teams, The Mannequin Challenge is believed to have been started by students in Jacksonville, Florida in early October.

The Mannequin Challenge is a viral Internet video trend in which large groups of people remain frozen in action like mannequins while someone records a video.

People then share their videos on social media using the hashtag #MannequinChallenge. We haven’t yet been able to figure out whether people are doing this for a reason or just for the fun of it.

In our opinion, the best Mannequin Challenge videos have "Black Beatles" by Rae Sremmurd playing in the background and as a result of the challenge, Black Beatles is currently the number one song in America according to the Billboard Hot 100 Charts.

Naturally, the trend has caught on in South Africa and here are some of our faves:

We just had to kick this one off with the one Nandi Madida and friends pulled off at the recent baby shower they hosted for her.

And in true challenge fashion, the Mzansi Magic cast and crew from different shows have been calling out their colleagues to get in on the fun:

And before musicians use it in their videos and claim to be the first to have done it, props should go to Burna Boy whose 2015 video for "Soke" features actors frozen in a manner similar to the challenge.
