Although being gay is not illegal in South Africa, a majority of the population is still not very accepting of gay people which is why some gay people still choose to hide their sexuality.

Somizi is one of the biggest names in the South African entertainment industry and one of the most loved personalities.
The actor/dancer/choreographer is also one of the openly gay celebrities in South Africa who is not afraid of living his truth.
Before coming out of the closet, Somizi dated women and was once even in a stable relationship with an actress called Palesa Madisakwane with whom he has a daughter called Bahumi Madisakwane.
Shortly after the birth of her daughter, Somizi came out as gay and parted ways with his baby mama.
After a lot of speculation about who he was dating, Somizi wedded his long-term boyfriend Mohale Tebogo Motaung in a traditional wedding in 2019 which was later followed by a white wedding in 2020.
The marriage, however, did not last for long as the two confirmed their divorce in 2021.

Lasizwe is one of the most accomplished YouTubers in South Africa, this young star first gained popularity from his videos where he imitated how South Africans behave on social media.
Besides his successful career as a YouTuber, Lasizwe also dabbles as a TV presenter, a radio host, an actor, and a comedian.
Lasizwe who is also an openly gay South African celebrity revealed that from a young age he knew he was different as he related more with girls his age than boys.
He came out as gay when he was 15 years old but it was not the greatest day of his life as he lost friends and his mother even refused to talk to him for months.

This award-winning musician, composer and songwriter is another one of the openly gay celebrities in South Africa.
Toya De Lazy married his long term partner who also acts as her manager- Allison ‘Ally’ Chaig in 2021.
The couple is on a journey to motherhood as Toya De Lazy’s wife is currently expectant.
Marc Lotering
Stand-up comedian Marc Lotering, is also amongst the openly gay celebrities in South Africa.
Lottering began his career as a comedian in 1997 and has won multiple awards since he started.
He married his husband Anwar McKay in 2010 in a small private wedding that was graced by close friends and relatives.
The couple celebrated their 10th anniversary in 2020 and they seem to be going stronger.

King Tha who has one daughter from her past relationship has been in a long term relationship with a woman identified as Anika. Although the two are not legally married, it appears that Thandizwa has nothing but love and appreciation for her partner whom she often gushes over on Twitter.
