Our favourite soapie moms

If you have a mother (aunt, grandmother etc) you have probably watched local soapies at some point or another, even if you didn't want to.

Mother figures are the most common feature in soapies, to the point where we sometimes wonder what it would be like if we were raised by them. Especially when they do and say things our mothers do or when they display the understanding and behavior we sometimes wish our own mothers had.

Take a look at which soapie moms we love

1. Lucy Diale

Lucy Diale

This gangsta mom was introduced to us with the Generations reboot and we fell in love with her instantly. We have since gotten to see more of her character and we must say, Lucy is the bomb! From getting dolled up to get Jack's attention and her love affair with Mrekza, to her one liners, Lucy definitely keeps us laughing.

We also loved how she went all out to get Lesedi back when she was sold into human trafficking because we all know how moms will go to hell and back for their babies (no matter how old they get).

2. Thandaza Buthelezi

Sindi Dlathu

In addition to being an inspiration to young women with aspirations of going into business, Thandaza works hard to raise her children, especially her son Vusi Mukhwevo. The only problem is, Vusi makes her life VERY difficult, but like any great mother, she would never leave his side.

She also knows when to give him tough love and when he needs to be coddled.

3. Agnes Matabane

Agnes Matabane

This church-loving mom was the rock of her family and her husband unfortunately tested that more times than he should have which sometimes required her to take out her sjambok and sort things out. That was always entertaining!

4. Dintle Nyathi

Dintle Nyathi

Scandal viewers, who could forget the day little Khanyi Jewel Nyathi was born? We were all so worried that it could be Daniel's baby that we didn't even stop to consider Quinton. And it seems Dintle didn't either, the look on her face when she first laid eyes on Khanyi was hilarious.

But being a mom really seems to have changed Dintle for the better (well, not all the way but mostly).

We are forever entertained by her antics and her journey.

5. Phumele Zungu

Phumele Zungu

Phumele is undoubtedly our favourite Zungu wife and mother (next to Iris of course). Phumele knows when to be discpline her kids and when to be understanding and we appreciate that.

She can also be quite funny from time to time, especially when paired with her sister-wife, Siphokazi.

6. Harriet Khoza

Harriet Khoza

Connie Ferguson went from being Karabo Moroka to one of the most bad-ass moms on TV after Lucy Diale. Now, we find ourselves hoping she'll get away with her crimes on The Queen even though she's the bad guy!

We love, love, love Harriet Khoza (and her brother Kgosi).

7. Lindiwe Xulu

Dawn Thandeka King

The matriarch of the Xulu family is such a G and she remains glamourous through it all. On the other hand, she kills it as Ma Zet on Mzansi Magic's Lockdown. Either way, we can't help but love her.

8. Charmaine Meintjies (nee Beukes)

Charmaine Meintjies

C'mon guys, who doesn't know Charmaine? Sometimes 7de Laan was the only thing you COULD watch on a Sunday afternoon if you were stuck at home back in the day.

She wasn't only a mom to her biological and step kids but to most of the people living and working on the Laan.

But they're not the only moms we'd like to celebrate out there. Happy Mother's Day to all the moms that are part of the ZAlebs family. Thanks for reading, liking, commenting and following, we appreciate you almost as much as your families do. Have a wonderful day!
