Pearl Thusi is a model, TV host, actor, MC, radio host, and entrepreneur.

She began modeling when she was a youngster and has competed in a number of pageants. Pearl was crowned Miss KwaZulu-Natal in 2005 and Miss SA Teen first runner-up in 2003.

In 2006, the Durban beauty rose to prominence as a presenter on SABC 3's iCrew. After finishing high school, she relocated to Johannesburg to pursue her studies at Wits University. While schooling, Pearl continued to concentrate on her modeling and acting careers.

It was in 2009 that the former Pinetown Girls' High School student landed a role in the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, opposite American actress Jill Scott. When Netflix revealed Pearl would feature in Queen Sono, the streaming service's first-ever African original series, she made history.

Lip Sync Battle Africa on MTV, BET Africa's Behind the Story, SABC 1's LIVE Amp, and the Comedy Central Roast of AKA are among the presentations she has hosted. In 2019, Pearl teamed up with WWF South Africa to help conserve the country's wildlife.

In a beautiful social media message, she gushed about her friend Nomuzi Mabena.

She made a list of all the things she admired in her BFF, beginning with the first time they met and ending with the present.

"Hi, Nomuzi... @moozlie. I know you have no clue about how much I care for you. I’ve loved you and your energy since I first saw you. The way you smile, how sweet and badass you are at the same time," she wrote.

Pearl went on to praise her hard work and vitality, applauding her contribution to the entertainment industry and her ability to stay true to herself.

"How hard you work, how hard you love. I can’t wait for the day you truly realise how incredible you are. I know you feel it but I can’t wait till you love it and live it. In the way, I see you but most importantly, the way God sees you." Pearl says. 

Pearl Thusi and DJ Zinhle, her best friend, are nearly inseparable. After Zinhle's baby daddy AKA left her for Bonang Matheba in 2015, they became closer. During the construction of Pearl's residence in 2017, Zinhle even moved in with her. Pearl virtually forced her to move into her house, the DJ joked.

“I didn't have a home, I was homeless and she was in New York and she literally forced me to move into her house  and I was really uncomfortable but she was like, I'm not hearing it you're moving to my house, so I moved with my nanny, my baby, everything into her house." Zinhle said on Channel O's Top 5 Drive.

"My father has a dark complexion. My mother had a light complexion. On my father's side, I have a recessive gene that dates back five generations. My family was mixed race five generations ago, therefore that's where it came from. "It's usual for years to go by without someone being born bright or having blue eyes until a few generations later when there's a gene recession," she told Glen Lewis on Touch HD in 2017.

Pearl Thusi's parents influenced her development as a person. Her mother died when she was still a teenager, in 2004. In interviews, Pearl frequently mentions her mother, calling her as the "hardest worker." Pearl stated she had to fill the roles of mother and wife after her mother died. After graduating from high school, she relocated to Johannesburg.

She told Anele Mdoda on Real Talk, "I ran away from being a mother to my sisters and being a wife to my father (in a sense) to being a real wife and mother."

Bhekizizwe Thusi, Pearl's father, had a tumultuous relationship with her. He is accused of abusing Pearl's mother, and she reveals he was the first man who broke her heart. Following her mother's death, their connection grew tense as well.

She spent her birthday without her father for the first time in 2020. She used Instagram to inform her followers that her father had died. Despite the fact that their connection had been strained at the time of her mother's death, all had been forgiven and the two had reconciled.

In an interview with the Citizen newspaper, Pearl revealed what it was like to work on the set.

“Some days my call time is as early as 5am and others I only get picked up at 1pm. We have anything between 12 to 14 hours on set, and sometimes I am there throughout, depending on the location of the scene, as well as camera angles. Before we shoot any scene we need to rehearse and the director then sees which camera shot he would like. Bear in mind that these cameras are moved around meaning we sometimes have to repeat the same scene a few times,” she said.

Pearl Thusi has appeared in a number of films both locally and internationally. In Scorpion King: Book of Souls, she portrayed warrior princess Tala. The film's primary actor was American actor Zach McGowan. In October 2018, the straight-to-DVD film, which was shot in Cape Town, was released. Pearl and Zach have become good friends since then.

Despite his assertions that they remained good friends, the ex-lovers would eventually throw social media digs at each other.


Before he fell madly in love with Minnie Dlamini, Pearl Thusi apparently dated TV producer Quinton Jones. The relationship has never been confirmed by Pearl. According to some sources, Minnie snatched Quinton from under Pearl's nose.

Pearl was one of the first to congratulate Minnie and Quinton when they got engaged, thus the love triangle claims are unlikely to be true. "YAAAAASSSS," she posted on Instagram after she and Quinton announced their engagement in 2016.

She is currently rumored to be dating businessman Shaun Keith Alfred Bonett.
