Today 16 June 2020 marks 44 years since the Soweto Uprising.

This was a historical event in South Africa comprising a series of protests and demonstrations led by black school kids from various school around Soweto.

This was a response to the introduction of Afrikaans as the medium of instruction in local schools.

It is estimated that about 20,000 students took part in the protests. Unfortunately, they were met with fierce police brutality.
