Sello tied the knot to his wife, Palesa Mboweni in 2013, but sadly the marriage did not even last for a year. In an interview with Drum Magazine, Sello revealed that they had been experiencing problems from the day they got marriage.

The actor explained that he didn't wish to bad mouth his wife, but wanted to set the record straight over reports that represented his character falsely by reporting that he was "controlling."

It appears that the then-wife had made things impossible. She had put two of his cars on fire, given all his clothes away, and locked him out of the house. Because of this, Sello made the decision that he could not stay in a relationship where he was not being respected. He finally served Palesa with divorce papers.

Sello has got five children Neo, Tsagae, Lindo, Lerato, Onkgopotse, as well as Akhona. He lost his eldest son Mxolisi in a fatal car accident.
