Sipho Ngema was a South African actor who came to the limelight of the entertainment industry when he got the role to play Raymond in the famous e.tv soapie, Rhythm City. 

Mzansi has been hit with more sad news yet again and this time it is the former Rhythm City Actor, Sipho Ngema.

The actor was often seen on screen playing hardcore criminal characters that viewers enjoyed watching and feared all at the same time. At times he managed to leave the viewers in laughter.

Sipho Ngema was the family man who was clear on the roles of a man and a woman in the household and he clearly mentioned that there was no debate over the issue.


Not much is known about Sipho Ngema's wife and children except his daughter Mbali who announced the news of his death. Although he seemed so tough on screen at home he was a sweetest husband and cool dad.

Sipho Ngema Career


Sipho's onscreen presence was nothing short of amazing and viewers always looked forward to watching him. In 2012, Sipho Ngema starred as Phuna along actors, Presley Chweneyagae, Lindani Nkosi and Khulu Skenjana in Zama Zama.

Zama Zama
was all about illegal miners that made a living by mining the ore in both operational and abandoned mine shafts. The plot revolved around moral choices: social standing and success versus loyalty to and love of family.

He starred on other television series such as eKasi: Our Stories, Hartland, Amagugu, Shabangu P.I., Tempy Pushas, Uyaphapha and uSkroef noSexy. Sipho also appeared on SABC Uzalo's third season.

In 2013, he got the role as Luthando, who was the drug dealing boss of a car wash, in the Mzansi Magic series, Stash. 2015 he appeared on the movie, Rise along with Oros Mampofu and other great actors in Mzansi. His brilliance on the screen landed him yet another role in 2018, on a mini TV series 'Judge Thenjiwe Khambule'.

According to colleagues and directors who got a chance to work with Sipho, he enjoyed playing the gangster role. He did nothing, but made his characters so relatable and real and that's what the viewers loved most about him.

Sipho Ngema Death


The local entertainment industry, is mourning the loss of another talent thespian who passed in less than a month, following the untimely death of larger-than-life veteran TV presenter V-Mash, who died 2 weeks ago and Skeem Saam actor Charles Maja.

According to his industry colleagues, Sipho Ngema succumbed to an illness. His death was made known to the public by his daughter Mbali. According to the daughter he died at exactly 10:15pm on the 21st of April in a Johannesburg hospital. 

"He passed away (on Tuesday) night at 10:15pm at a hospital in Johannesburg. He suffered from pulmonary hypertension, which caused his heart to fail. The family is currently discussing details of his burial." said the daughter.

In an interview with Tshisa Live his daughter said his father seemed like he was hard core as portrayed by the characters he always played on screen. To his children he was a big softie who always had a smile on his face. 

Director and fellow actor Jabulani Mthembu, took to Facebook to express shock at the passing of Ngema.

May your soul rest in peace, MaDlokovu.I am still shocked with disbelieve,” said Mthembu.


Celebrities and fans have come out to pay their respects. Fellow Uzalo actress, Nomcebo Gumede paid her respects to the veteran actor and recalls how they worked together.

“... He was my long lost boyfriend (Terror) at first I was very scared of him and he said “don’t worry sweetie am just ugly but I don’t bite”  from there on we became very close, we met again at Etv and it was a beautiful reunion,” said Gumede in an Instagram post.



Sipho Ngema will always be remembered for his amazing acting and the life that he brought to all the characters he assumed on screen. Deepest condolensces to the Ngema family. Sipho Ngema died at the age of 47.
