The DA has confirmed to that it will be writing to the Minister of Health, Dr Joe Phaala to take a close look at this issue. Recently, the Health Professions Council of South Africa revealed that Dr Nandipha Magudumana was currently suspended due to failing to settle her annual fees.
This came to light while Dr Nandipha and boyfriend, Facebook rapist and murderer Thabo Bester were currently on the run, two months ago. The HPCSA revealed that Dr Nandipha's license was suspended on 1 April, 2021, which means if she was practicing whilst not registered with the council, she committed a criminal offence.
"The HPCSA said Nandipha Magudumana had been suspended. In terms of Section 19A(1)(b) of the Health Professions Act for failure to pay annual fees when they were due on 1 April 2021. This becomes a matter for the HPCSA inspectorate office to investigate further, in conjunction with law enforcement, to determine whether she is practising whilst not registered with council. As stipulated in the Health Professions Act, 56 of 1974, practising whilst not registered with [the] council is a criminal offence," reports News24
The Democratic Alliance have expressed the unsettling feeling of having Dr Nandipha to continue with practicing after she assisted Bester to escape from prison, stole dead bodies from the mortuary and fled the country with Bester to escape the law.
"However, this issues pales in comparison to the more concerning allegations that she helped convicted rapist and murderer Thabo Bester, escape from prison and even stole bodies from the mortuary. Therefore, the Democratic Alliance is calling for the Health Professions Council of South Africa to investigate the suitability of her licence in light of the recent revelations with the intention to revoke it. This action must be taken to demonstrate that no one is above the law and to ensure the safety and well-being of patients who may come into contact with her in the future." wrote Democratic Alliance (DA)
