Tamara Jozi’s childhood and background


Tamara Nokulunga Jozi was born on the 12th of December 1956 in South Africa. Very little has been published about her background and information regarding her childhood, her parents, or her education is currently unavailable.

It is not clear if Tamara Jozi got any professional training before launching her acting career or even when she officially launched her acting career.

She however appeared in a good number of commercials, television series and films throughout her career and was affectionately known as Gogo by most of her fans.

Tamara Jozi’s film credits include her role as a domestic worker in the 2001 film The Long Run, the 2013 After 9, and the short films Secrets and Lies and Die Soldaat.

She also played a number of roles on television shows including Soul City, Gauteng Maboneng, Mzansi Magic’s Isibaya, Lithapo, eTV's Rhythm City, Society and Scandal! Her last role on television was on M-Net’s thriller series- Reyka where she played the role of Bongi’s grandmother.

Besides her roles in television series and films, Tamara Jozi also appeared in several commercials throughout the course of her career. She was best known for "the Wimpy" advertisement where she kept asking, "Thabo, when are you getting married?"


Tamara Jozi’s death


The late Tamara Jozi breathed her last on the 6th of August 2021. News about her sudden death was announced by her daughter- Ziyanda Jozi who also explained that the veteran actress had died from natural causes.

Shortly after news of her death broke, South Africans, led by her agency- Trinity Management, took to social media to pay their tributes to the legend. 

 "#RIPTamaraJozi we will miss you. Your little laughs and how you were dedicated to your work," Tweeted Trinity Management.

Details about Tamara Jozi’s funeral and burial were not provided and it appears that the family decided to hold a private send-off for the legend.
