It was recently announced that Mzansi Magic’s The Queen has been renewed for a seventh and final season, and although we are eagerly waiting for the next season to premiere, we also can’t help feeling a little sad that this soapie that has been keeping us on the edge of our seats since 2016 is really coming to an end.
Throughout the six seasons of the show, viewers have witnessed lots of changes in the soapie’s cast as many actors have joined and left the show for one reason or another. Today we take a look at a few of the current members of the Queen cast who have been serving us with drama and reveal their real names and what they do in real life.
Harriet Khoza(Connie Ferguson)
Connie Ferguson is one of the Queen’s cast who has been in the show since season one. She plays the leading role of Harriet Khoza who is the matriarch of the Khoza family.
In the show, Harriet is the mother of Kea and Kagiso, and the widow of Mzi Khoza. Harriet Khoza will do everything in her power to ensure that her family is protected, and viewers are always amazed by how she manages to remain calm and composed regardless of the situation at hand.
Connie Ferguson who is also the executive producer of The Queen is a living legend in South Africa’s film industry. Besides being the co-founder and owner of Ferguson’s Film, Connie has also had a long-standing career as an actress and has starred in a number of popular television series and films including Generations.
Connie is the widow of Shona Ferguson who passed on in 2021. Shona who was the co-founder and co-owner of Ferguson films also starred in The Queen as Jerry Maake who was shot dead in season four.
Brutus Khoza (Themba Ndaba)
The brutally honest Brutus Khoza is also one of the leading characters in The Queen. He is Harriet Khoza’s brother-in-law and the patriarch of the Khoza family. Together with Harriet, they ran the biggest cocaine business in South Africa.
Brutus Khoza is played by 57-year-old Themba Ndaba who has been actively acting since 1990 and has appeared in a number of popular movies and series including Machine Gun Preacher and Hopeville.
Themba Ndaba’s acting skills have won him several awards including favourite actor by Dstv Viewers Choice Awards for his role as Brutus on The Queen and the 2011 Africa Movie Academy Awards for his role on Hopeville.
He has been married twice in real life, first to actress Sophie Ndaba with whom he has two children, then to his second and current wife Josey Ndaba with whom he has one child together.
Vuyiswa "Sis Vee" Maake - Sebata (Zandile Msutwana)
Zandile Msutwana is another actor who is a member of The Queen cast and has been playing the role of Vuyiswa "Sis Vee" Maake - Sebata, a police lieutenant at Thembisa Police Station.
Lieutenant Vuyiswa is a tough police officer who was married to Jerry Maake (Shona Ferguson) until his death in season four. The role was briefly played by Thembisa Mdoda after Zandile sustained an injury on set.
Besides her role in The Queen, Zandile Msutswana has a colourful CV as an actress and has been cast on several shows and movies including the 2009 White Wedding which won her a SAFTA for Best Supporting Actress.
Patronella "Sis Pat" Zulu (Thembsie Matu)
Another actress who is a member of The Queen cast is Thembsie Matu who plays the role of Patronella Zulu, aka Sis Pat.
Patronella was a recurring role in seasons one and two but got promoted to the main role in season three. She is an outspoken, greedy housekeeper at Hector’s house who is married to Mjekejeke.
In real life, Thembsie Matu is a 55-year-old wife and mother of two children who has brought numerous characters to life and also dabbles as a television presenter.
Thando Sebata (Jessica Nkosi)
The talented Jessica Nkosi is also a member of The Queen cast where she plays the role of Thando Sebata- a dangerous and ruthless sniper and assassin.
Her role on The Queen earned Jessica Nkosi an award for Outstanding Female Villain by The Royalty Soapie Awards in 2021.
Besides her role on The Queen, Jessica also appeared on Isibaya and Ayeye. She is also a TV presenter, a brand ambassador, and an entrepreneur.
