Mzansi Wethu continues to strengthen its original exclusive reality TV slate with the premiere of two new series in July, as well as the return of an audience favourite.
The interventionalist show Umndende confronts social grant abusers and premieres on 23 July 2022; Social grants are a lifeline for many South Africans, but what happens when a much-needed welfare grant isn’t used for its intended purpose? That’s the question tackled by Umndende, the new 13-part show, which follows people who confront family members misusing social grants for their own selfish needs.
Hosted by the warm and compassionate Thabiso Mokhethi, the show’s title refers to what is known as ‘modende’ – slang used in South African townships for the government-based social grants, including pension, disability grants and child grants.
Another type of confrontation will be seen on Suxoka, hosted by actress Thembisa Mdoda Nxumalo. It features couples whose trust issues need to be laid to rest in order for the relationship to get back on to stable ground and move forward.
Couple will share their love story with audience and bring us into their world as to some of the reasons there has been a loss of trust. Previous attempts to move one from this break of trust have been futile and this is the last chance to do so. A great deal hangs in the balance. Suxoka, premiers on 16 July 2022.
Taking to her Instagram account, Thembisa shared the exciting news to her elated fans, and they cannot wait for the show to premiere.
And finally, Wang’kolota returns for its second season on 16 July 2022. It’s hosted once again by actor Kagiso Modupe, who, as a qualified family psychologist, is the perfect host to lead a show where people confront those who owe them money because it’s often about so much more than that – it’s about broken trust and severed ties. Not only is the guiding question on Wang’kolota whether or not people will get their money back – it also asks: can their relationships be salvaged?
“Mzansi Wethu’s content slate keeps evolving and growing, and we are thrilled to shake things up with two new and one returning show – something our loyal viewers love and appreciate,” says Shirley Adonisi, Director of Local Entertainment Channels at M-Net.
“As a channel, we’re proud to expand our new and original offering, premiering shows that appeal to the sensibilities and interests of our versatile and discerning audience,” she concludes.
Buckle up, it’s going to be a bumper July for reality lovers on Mzansi Wethu (DStv Channel 163). Don’t miss the premiere of Suxoka on 16 July at 20h00 with the return of Wang’kolota season 2 on 16 July at 20h30. Umndende will premiere on 23 July 2022 at 21h00.
