"This Character Is Not For Me"- Bonko Khoza

The actor pleads with viewers to welcome the show's new changes

While Bonko Khoza successfully played the character of Mqhele Zulu in Twitter-topping Showmax Original telenovela The Wife, the actor says the character does not belong to him and can be portrayed by however is fit to play it.

Bonko won the hearts of many viewers during his debut. Despite portraying a love-to-hate character, his acting skills impressed many; however, many were disappointed when it was announced that he wouldn't be returning for season three.

The third season of the Showmax original telenovela returned on Thursday and it gave viewers the first proper taste of the revamped Mqhele played by Wiseman Mncube.

Taking to the blue app, Khoza asked viewers to welcome Mncube instead of criticizing him and comparing their abilities. Although there have been mixed reactions to Mncube's debut online, it seems a number of people are impressed with his acting talent.

“I pray one day the audience and the creators can be on the same page because there’s a real disconnect between what happens behind the scenes and what the public sees. This character does not belong to me.

“It belongs to Sis Dudu and Showmax. Meaning it can be played by whoever they see fit. As for me I did my fair share. And now it’s time to give other actors a chance on the same big platform that I got given a chance,” he wrote.

He further added "Once we as an audience can tap into this idea of creativity and collaboration instead of being entitled to actors' lives, you’ll enjoy the art of what we’re actually doing so much more, I promise you. Much love.”

In another post, Bonko congratulated Wiseman and gave him his stamp of approval “Khuphuka Mncube! Khambule, Mzilankatha, Msuthu, Mncube onsundu ngezinyawo zakho, Wen'oyithath'iNkosi uyibek'enhlabelweni. Congratulations brother! You are truly SA TV Royalty.”

Wiseman has thanked viewers of the show for the warm reception he has received since taking over the reins from Khoza.

Taking to his Facebook account, he is grateful and feeling blessed. "I come a long way and has always worked hard on my craft with discipline professionalism and dedication. Always had and still have a dream to make it. Right now I think I’m on the right path…it’s the gift I was gifted me with which I love and respect. And nayo its keeps showing me the same love and respect. Thank you to everyone who keep on pushing inspiring motivating and cheering me to never give up who constantly remind me how great I am. I will never stop. I always said since varsity that if art were to be taken away from me I would die. Alutha continua," he wrote.

While some have compared his character to Bonko, others have assured him that he is doing well.
