Gugu Gumede Ma'Mlambo Uzalo

Earlier this month, we invited YOU, the ZAlebs reader to vote in the first ever ZAlebs awards and now that voting is closed, we’re revealing which ZAlebs came out tops in each category according to you.

While the year 2016 gained notoriety for being one of the worst years in existence, 2017 had enough ups and downs to keep everyone happy.

One of the happiest moments we had as a nation was when we heard that Isithunzi actress, Thuso Mbedu, was nominated for an Emmy

While she may not have won, the fact that the world now knows what we’ve always known about her acting is enough. Hopefully, in the years to come, she will finally be able to secure that win as she has the full support of the nation.

Zikhona bali

Speaking of Isithunzi, Mbedu’s co-star Zikhona Bali has also had a phenomenal break through year with her role on Isithunzi as well as on shows such as SABC 1’s Generations. Bali’s acting talent is so innate and intuitive and we can’t wait to see her blossom.

Zamani Mbatha

Zamani Mbatha’s career only begun this year and he is already a firm favourite amongst Mzansi Magic viewers after his debut role as Zamani on the youth focused drama, Isithembiso. While many tried to invalidate his acting skills due to his relation to older sister Nomzamo Mbatha, Zamani continues to prove that he has the acting chops to be where he is right now.

Speaking of Isithembiso, we have to give an honorable mention to Mbatha’s co-star Lemogang Tsipa. He has has a phenomenal year with roles in both TV productions as well as local and international feature films. The media has been accused of not taking notice of the young man but I can say for sure that we see his meteoric rise and we’re happy to document it.

Gugu Gumede Ma'Mlambo Uzalo

Lastly we have Gugu Gumede whose real age many still can’t believe due to how believable her portrayal of Mamlambo is on the SABC 1 drama Uzalo. In real life, she is a glam goddess and prayer warrior of note.

Despite the smorgasbord of talent, ZAlebs readers seemed to have an easy time Thuso Mbedu as the actor with the most inspirational come up this year.
