SABC 1's popular TV soap Uzalo has made history. The show recently reached 0ne Million followers on Instagram becoming the very first South African TV soap to reach that large number of followers on Instagram.

The show posted videos and pictures of the crew and cast celebrating the milestone on Instagram.

Uzalo star Nompilo Maphumolo also took to her Instagram to share the moment. She wrote: “Thank you for the love and support. TV Soapie 1 Million followers. Wake wakubonaphi?... We are all smiles because of you!!! Keep watching. Kusazoba mnandi hoooooreee.”
“Not our KwaMashu Beyoncé, Not Sbu’s Sugaring Ding-Ding!! Farewell to our Beloved Fikile @neliisah There will never be one like you,” wrote the show on Instagram.
According to reports, Nelisa did not want to part ways with the show, she allegedly begged to be saved. Daily Sun reported that a source close to Nelisa revealed that they tried to save Nelisa’s character but failed.
"Nelisa loved playing Fikile. So she was heartbroken when she was told her character was going to end. She begged them not to do it. They tried but failed," said a source.
Uzalo’s spokesperson Nomfundo Zondi told the publication that the show did not announce her departure prior because they were uncertain about her storyline.
“We didn't announce her exit because her thing was on and off. Producers and writers were trying to see if they could continue with Fikile. They were not sure whether her storyline was continuing or not. That is why her exit was not announced."
Just a few days before Nelisa’s departure, viewers were introduced to a new face Tha Simelane who came in to shake things up. Tha played the role of Jasper.
Speaking about his role to Daily Sun he said: “ GC and Thobile owe this guy big money and he's coming to KwaMashu to get it...They have been going around in KwaMashu, bragging about the car that they don't own. They even undermine the people of KwaMashu, but the truth is about who the car belongs to will be revealed."
He told the publication that he was excited to join Uzalo.
“Uzalo is the biggest TV show in Mzansi. So saying that I'm excited for acting in it is an understatement. I don't know how I feel. I am very happy. I wish one day I get a big role in a big TV drama. I like acting and people love me."
