What To Know About Ngizwe Mchunu Of Ukhozi FM

Ngizwe Mchunu is a South African radio personality, definite newsmaker and sangoma. Ngizwe was born in Nkandla, KwaZulu-Natal.

Mchunu was previously a presenter for SABC’s Ukhozi FM but was fired after years working for the station. Apparently, he violated a confidentiality policy by publicly sharing private station information.

Following his dismissal, he has never landed another commercial radio presenting job. Yet, his popularity has grown ten folds, with his videos that always topics of discussion on social media.

After he was fired, he launched his own online radio station dubbed Ngizwe Mchunu FM. It first aired on 14 September 2019 at 0900-2300h. It plays and promotes traditional music.

Mchunu has earned the role of  one of Mzansi’s most controversial popular personalities. He is popularly known for his tongue wagging content on social media.

His viral videos have tweeps at the edge of their seats as he calls out on President Cyril Ramaphosa and others. Recently he lashed out on to Eskom on why the country is currently experiencing load shedding.

He called out President Cyril Ramaphosa and eluded that he is useless. Tweeps were shocked at the language and swearing words Ngizwe Mchunu used to convey his grievance. Meanwhile some actually agreed with what Ngizwe Mchunu was saying.

Ngizwe’s legal spouse is Siphelele Nxumalo. However, Ngizwe had tried to marry three women. South Africa’s legal system allows for polygamous marriages under the Recognition of Customary Marriages Act. However, they must be done in accordance with the recognised traditions and Mchunu failed to follow them.

Siphelele Nxumalo, his first wife, took him to court in 2014 in a bid to annul his civil marriage to his third would-be wife, Floda Mthimkhulu. Consequently his marriages to his second wife Lindiwe Khuzwayo and his third bride Floda were invalidated by the court.

They came to a conclusion that Mchunu had not complied with one of the requirements of traditional African marriages, which requires that any man wishing to take another wife must first make an appeal to court to approve a written contract governing the future matrimonial property system of the marriages. Mchunu is a staunch supporter of former South African president Jacob Zuma. Before Zuma’s arrest and detention, Mchunu was seen patrolling his homestead insisting the president would not go to jail.

Although fans of Ukhozi FM miss his shows dearly, Mchunu still performs his journalistic roles fearlessly. He keeps power in check without fear or favour. That, in spite of his occasional clashes with authorities, Mchunu still maintains to be an entertainer.
