Busiswa Gqulu, also known as Busiswa or Busi, was born on November 8th, 1988 in Mthatha, Eastern Cape. She is 34 years old.
She was a young girl when her family relocated to Durban. She started composing poems in 2004, when she was fifteen years old and in the eleventh grade, and she became interested in writing.
Busiswa was raised by her late mother and grandma during her early years. They had a significant impact on the woman she is today.
At her grandmother's funeral, she had her first opportunity to perform her poetry. Busiswa later joined the group Young Basadzi Women of Poetry.
Later, she continued to read her poetry at a variety of corporate gatherings, poetry readings, talent shows, and festivals. She also organized her monthly poetry readings, known as the "1st Word Sessions," at the Bat Centre in Durban in addition to these performances and activities.
After completing high school, Gqulu performed her poems while working as an art instructor at a center for the arts. Since they lacked the funds to pay for her university education, her parents supported her choice of work.
