Thabo Smol and Murdah Bongz
Formed over a decade ago by two musical geniuses who met and became friends, Black Motion has been one of the best musical duos in South Africa for the past decade and their work has been celebrated all over the world.

To celebrate a decade in the industry, the duo released their album called The Healers: The Last Chapter in 2020. This sparked rumours that the original members of Black Motion- Robert Bongani Mohosana (Murdah Bongz/Mörda) and Roy Thabo Mabogwane (Thabo Smol) were going their separate ways, a rumour that the duo denied.

During a past interview, the duo shed more light on their album's title and explained that it was simply a chapter of ten years that was coming to an end and more.

After endless rumours of Black Motion’s split that the duo kept denying, it seems the inevitable finally happened and we have a new Black Motion. Here is everything you need to know about Black Motion’s split and what the new Black Motion looks and sounds like.

Reports that Black Motion had split and Thabo Smol and Murdah Bongz had parted ways began in April 2022 after the two artists began working on individual projects. Murdah Bongz even rebranded his name to Mörda.

Following the split rumours, the duo’s fans who were obviously not pleased with the news took to Twitter to express their unhappiness.

While looking for an explanation for Black Motion’s split, some fans came up with several theories and it wasn’t long before some started blaming Mörda’s better half DJ Zinhle for the split and even threatening to cancel her.

Taking to Twitter, DJ Zinhle downplayed the blame allegations saying that tweeps would next blame her for the rise in petrol prices then went on to promote her business- Era by Zinhle.

Black Motion later shared an official statement through their record label Spirit Motion, rubbishing the rumours that they had split, explaining that Murdah had only rebranded his name to Mörda as he was preparing to launch his solo career while Smol would be venturing into other businesses, but they were both still part of Black Motion.

Despite denying the split allegations, it appears that the rumours were true after all and Black Motion is still in place, it appears that it has a new member and Mörda who recently released his debut solo album is out.

The new Black Motion

Black Motion recently gave an electric performance during the Tastic Heritage Festival but there was a new face in place of Mörda’s.

The new member of Black Motion has been identified as Kabelo Koma, aka Problem Child and fans seem to be loving him already although some are still stuck on the old Black Motion and wish that things never changed in the first place.
