Zola 7 was diagnosed with epilepsy a few years ago which has seen him lose weight and struggle with his career.

Epilepsy is a chronic illness in which nerve cell activity in the brain is disrupted, resulting in seizures. Although this medical condition often results from a genetic disorder, it may also be caused by brain damage resulting from trauma or stroke.

In January 2021, the legendary musician and television personality got involved in a grievous accident that nearly claimed his life. He had been driving in Meadowlands, Soweto when he had an epileptic seizure, lost control of his car and crashed into a spaza shop. Luckily, he suffered from minor injuries and nobody else was hurt from the accident.

In a past interview with Mac G on the famous Podcast and Chill with Mac G, Zola talked at length about his illness.

“I lost a lot of weight over the past year. I was extremely sick, I was home and I was shaking. Everybody around me was scared I was going to die. I couldn’t eat well. I was eating Mageu, porridge and Fish.” He said.

He also revealed that he had been very sick and was fighting to look normal when he recorded a song with Cassper Nyovest and they had to do about 25 cuts.

He further revealed that he has to take medication twice a day just to get by. Although there is no ultimate cure for epilepsy, there are medications to manage the illness and they can help patients get by with their lives.

Zola 7’s appeal for help

After Zola 7’s woes came to light, many of his friends in the entertainment industry and his fans offered to help him get back on his feet by offering financial support.
