Soapie star Rami Chuene is using her business acumen to good effect after being handed a big deal by the African National Congress (ANC).
The “Scandal!” actress has been commissioned to package special edition wine to commemorate the ANC’s 100th birthday.
Chuene admits to being over the moon with the development and is excited about what the future may hold as a result.
“I took the idea to the ANC, who accepted it. I am actually thrilled to have been given this opportunity to put my ideas into action,” she told Sowetan.
Working alongside artists such as Mbongeni Buthelezi, Vusi Mfupi, Nkosinathi Mncube, Yda Walt, Nkosinathi Thomas Ngulube, Paul Blomkamp, Zolile Phetsane and Sam Nhlengethwa to design the packaging, Chuene assures that her range will be marketed to all South Africans, with wines ranging from R100 to R4,500, while some of the more exclusive wines will be auctioned off.
“The open market bottles (750 ml) are from decade one to decade six (of the ANC’s existence), while those from decade seven to decade 10 will be auctioned off with art works that have been especially created by some of the country’s leading artists,” she added.
“What it means is that you cannot bid for the bottle or the artwork alone.
“They go together and these are really limited editions. For example, decades eight and nine bottles are only two for each decade, while for decade 10 there is only one bottle.”
Are you going to buy any of the wine?
