Local fans of award-winning TV series ‘Game of Thrones’ can rejoice, after M-Net announced that the second season will be airing on South African screens soon.

Based on the best-selling fantasy novels of George RR Martin, ‘Game of Thrones’ is set in the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, which are separated from the shadowy and terror filled Northlands by a massive and perpetually manned wall.

The kingdoms are at war, as powerful families vie for power by way of intrigue and bloodshed. Incestuous politics and bloody warfare divides the people.  But while they fight one another, bloodthirsty creatures are appearing in the North.

The second season will kick off with a two-hour episode, entitled “The North Remembers”, on M-Net and M-Net HD, on Friday April 13 at 22:05.

For a special Season 2 preview, fans can tune in on Sunday April 8 at 22:05. The season will be comprised of 10 hour-long episodes.

The second season, which is based on Martin’s novel ‘A Clash of Kings’, will introduce several new characters, such as a Red Priestess (played by Dutch actress Carice van Outen), and a new pretender to the Iron Throne, Stannis Baratheon.
