Its either Netflix is obsessed with us right now or Africa is the future. Either way, South Africa stays winning because Netflix has released their second South African original.

Netflix said that they were invested in Afrocentric content and it's clear that they are putting their money where their mouth is. With content coming from Malawi with the drama, The Who Harnessed The Wind and now with two original South African series...yeah, you’re right Africa is definitely the future. Took them long enough.

Just a few weeks the international streamer also announced its acquisition of South African drama “Shadow,” about an ex-cop with superpowers, which will be released globally as a Netflix Original March 8.

The series is called Blood and Water and the teen-led series will be directed by award-winning Black girl magic, Nosipho Dumisa.

This youthful series will follow the story of a teenager who discovers shocking secrets about her family's past whilst trying to navigate life in the (oftentimes) complex world of a South African high school. The series will begin production this year and will only be launched officially some time next year.

The series is set to start production later this year and is expected to launch globally in 190 countries in 2020.

Daryne Joshua and Travis Taute will be writing and co-directing with Dumisa, with Bradley Joshua and Benjamin Overmeyer on board as producers and Simon Beesley as lead editor from Gambit Films.

Speaking on her latest project, Nosipho Dumisa said:

"Gambit Films and I are so excited to be working with Netflix on this explosive young adult drama, with not only a cool look at strong female leads but also a powerful mystery at its core. As a director who loves this genre, this series combines the best of so many and isn't shy to delve into the real issues of youth culture, whilst jam-packing it with twists that will keep viewers guessing."
