What is 'Ayeye'?

It's a new comedic series on VuzuAmp that features a star-studded cast including Thapelo Mokoena, Sthembiso 'SK' Khoza and Mpho 'Popps' Modikoane, who play three friends that share an apartment in downtown Johannesburg and work as creatives at a big advertising agency. For the next 12 weeks, the series will be following their journey filled with trials and tribulations.

A quick chat with the producer

NoW! spoke to the producer of 'Ayeye', Kutlwano Ditshele, to find out more about the series.

How did the idea of the series come about?

It's an idea I've had for quite a while - about 5 to 6 years ago - when I started working at Bomb Productions. It's an idea we could not execute at the time, however, when a brief from MNet came for a new drama series last year, my colleagues and I figured that it was the right time to flash it out.

What are some of the challenges you faced when putting the production together?

We had regular production challenges, such as getting the story right, shooting on time, location issues and so forth.

Take us through the casting process...

Bomb Productions is always on the lookout for new talent. So we put it out a casting call on social media, held auditions over 3 sessions and through that, we found one of the lead actresses, Zandile Lujabe. We also held castings for well-known actors.

How has the reception been after its first episode?

For now, we can only judge via social media and the response has been very positive, most of it. And because there's lot of swearing and sex on the show, we did expect some kind of lashing for that, which was a risk we decided to take.

What can viewers expect in the weeks to come?

I don't want to give away too much, but viewers can expect a lot of coming-of-age, intense drama, a great story and we're sure it's going to get lots of interest.

By the way, have you seen the interview we did on Ayeye with Zola? Find out how he's taking things now that he's back to acting!

What YOU had to say?

You can catch 'Ayeye', every Monday on VuzuAmp (channel 114). Oh, and another thing, put your kids to bed before watching because it has a rating of 16 - for GOOD reason.
