Singer Chad Saaiman always wanted to be a football star and on Monday 30 December that dream could come true when he hosts his very own celebrity soccer event in Cape Town.

Saaiman, who first won fame as a semifinalist on SA Idols said in a 2012 interview that he dreamed of being a football player from a young age. “When I was young writing poetry and playing soccer was my thing,” he told The Sunday Sun.

"In fact I dreamt of being a professional player. I was small, tiny, but I was good. I had to be so as to be accepted by the guys and not have them make fun of my height, or lack of it.”

But he ended up a musician and now he is looking to use his celebrity status to do good for the community.

Speaking to The Daily Voice he said, “It’s quite a mix of people in the industry, including producers and those involved in record labels. We wanted to show these personalities enjoying something else that they love.”

Among those due to take part are comedians Loyiso Gola and Siv Ngesi, DJ Lyle and DJ Speedsta, Naves and Sphectacula. Meanwhile Ajax Cape Town footballer Nathan Paulse will be responsible for spinning the tunes.

“We want to use the event to raise money for charities,” said Saaiman.

The event takes place at Fives Futbol Courts in Green Point and the first game starts at 1pm.
