One of SA's most well known and highly respected designers, David Tlale has announced that he will be taking two young designers to New York next year in order for them to have an experience in fashion world and empower them as future designers.
The two promising designers will be given an opportunity to a full year internship with David in Johannesburg and get to go with him to New York in September 2014 for the New York Fashion Week.
David is partnering with the Kwazulu Natal Department of Economic Development and Tourism to take the designers on a journey from studying to the full blown experience of working in the fashion industry.
The designers will experience the demands and realities of the fashion world and the business of fashion.
“There’s a profound difference between the theoretical work and a hands-on experience; I feel that this would give young designers an enriching practice,” says David.
“This way they get to see us work as we build a collection from scratch,” he said.
“The designer will get to work behind the scenes at fashion week and catch a glimpse of the fashion week mania, as well as seeing the day-to-day running of a fashion business,” adds Tlale.
