How DJ Cleo made his football dream a reality

DJ Cleo admits that he's finally fulilled his dream of becoming a soccer player. The DJ, who shocked us all when he left the music business to focus on a career in football, recently spoke out about his adventure in the sport.

Although he's not playing professionally, he told Noeleen Maholwana-Sangqu on 3 Talk: "I'm not lost to football. I've stopped playing, yes. I now play socially, but I'm fulfilled. I achieved what I wanted and I followed my dream. Despite the politics and the ups and downs that I went through, 2014 was my worst and best year ever."

He added that he experienced a lot of things that he never thought he would. The DJ explained: "You hear a lot of things about the football industry and its politcs... I got to experience those things in person and I had to deal with injuries as well..."

Although a lot of people were negative about his football career, Cleo is happy to have followed his dream. He said on the show: "I did it because I wanted to. I was doing it for me, no one else. I did it, you know. I now know a lot of soccer players because I've either conceded a goal to them, or I've stopped their shots... We've been on the field of play and exchanged blows."

The 35-year-old music legend said that he had the time of his life during the whole experience. "I would encourage all the youngsters to please, please, please fulifil your dreams. Don't listen to people who say you won't make it or you can't make it. Go out there and do it."

It's refreshing to see someone pursue such an obscure dream and I'm happy that he didn't listen to those negative voices that wanted to stop him. Cleo has taken things a step further and decided to become a football agent, and he's also pushing  his own brand of football gloves.

Even Bafana Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba is proud of him as a goalkeeper. Shakes' message for Cleo on the show was: "You've done well, we had fun with you..."

Aww... getting endorsed by Bra Shakes must be awesome.
