It's a sad time for South African talk shows. Just a few days after Noeleen Maholwana-Sangqu's exit from 3 Talk was announced, it has been confirmed that e.tv has canned its talk show Ekse: Let's Talk with Masechaba Lekalake.
The last episode will air on Thursday, 26 March. The show, which is hosted by Power FM presenter Masechaba, comedian Tol Ass Mo and Refilwe Modiselle, tackles almost every issue faced by ordinary South Africans.
Masechaba said in a statement: "It is an honour and a privilege to have pioneered a fresh approach to talk television in South Africa, with a dynamic team. It's been an incredible journey, however, I have chosen not to renew my contract for Ekse Let's Talk."
She revealed that although she's moved on from the show, she hasn't left the channel. "I'm proud to be associated with a social impact. We've only just tipped the iceberg, there's definitely more to come." She thanked viewers for their support, love and loyalty.
Tol Ass Mo said: "I had the time of my life on the show. It gave me the opportunity to learn so many things about myself, the South African economy and most importantly how to be taken seriously. People only saw me as a comedian and the talk show gave diversity in the work that I do."
Refliwe will be pursuing other goals on the small screen.
Monde Twala, MD of e.tv Channels Division wished the trio all the best for the future. He added: "The high standard of expertise and professionalism they all possess is truly admirable. We are grateful for the working relationship we had with the team and the experience they shared with us."
