It’s a brand new year and a brand new “me” for many boys and girls out there, particularly those few people who were chopped down from 300,000 Instagram followers to about 12 towards the end of 2014. I’m not even going to judge, nor am I going to dwell on that issue (Don’t want to cause anymore pain). But let’s face it, you do need to get your street rep back up.
One thing that often helps in being able to win back the credit and adoration of your friends and followers is new music. If you can be seen as THAT PERSON who just discovers a track out of the blue, you’ll be the coolest kid in the block once again in no time. So to help you, we’ve put together a few tracks you should add to your library to kick start 2015. To make it better, we’ve added a bit of guidance so that you can choose the right track for the right occasion
If you’re feeling emotional…
Kanye West ft Paul McCartney - Only One
Could many other rappers have managed to score a feature from a Beatles legend? Kanye teams up with Sir Paul for what is, a very different track to what we’d expect but ultimately a great one. Is this how fatherhood has changed Yeezus? (Zee spoke about it in detail here, but I love it too much to leave it off my list)
If you’ve just broken up with someone…
Chris Brown and Tyga - Ayo
(…But you know your girl’s got yo back (Ladies, mainly)
Mila J - My Main
I think the first track is more to the fellas, although if any ladies are going through a breakup you could probably relate; but the second track will be the perfect dedication to you and your BFF. She’s there forever and this track is the ultimate way to celebrate your friendship this new year!
If you're in the mood for long weird titles...
A$AP Rocky - Lord Pretty Flacko Jodye 2
A$AP Rocky has to be one of the most interesting rappers to step onto the scene in recent years and he’s back with a typical ‘Rocky’ song. With an album apparently in the works it seems Rocky is working hard to gather as much momentum as possible!
Bonus: Artists that could pop off this year
I’m currently in the UK and there’s some interesting music floating around this side. Here are a few artists that we COULD say make their way to South Africa this year (Not all are British, mind you!)
Listen to her If you like: Janelle Monae and James Blake? Very ambient but gorgeous RnB singer with an even more gorgeous voice.
Listen to her If you like: Erykah Badu. Although she sounds a little too much like Erykah for the liking of some, others are loving the inspired sound.
Listen to him If you like: Ben Howard, Ed Sheeran and Passenger. Lewis Watson is another singer/songwriter of similar mould but buckets of talent all the same.
Listen to her If you like: Taylor Swift and Birdy. She’s a little less poppy than Ms Swift, but her voice is every bit as delightful.
