Seriously, what's going on with crime, police and our celebs right now? First Jay Anstey is robbed in her home, then Gospel singer Lundi is beaten up by police? Hayi man, South Africa, this isn't right. Now there's another issue to deal with; Janez Vermeiren's cameramen were robbed and assaulted at gunpoint. The Man Cave host revealed the news on Twitter.
He wrote: "My cameramen David & Eckard were assaulted and had all their equipment stolen at gunpoint in Joburg yesterday. RSA is out of control." Yikes, that's unbelievable and disappointing.
The presenter and producer's followers expressed their shock on Twitter and shared their views on crime in SA. One wrote: "That's terrible news! It's a good thing that they're okay though. Crime is definitely something we need to tackle head on!"
We are glad to hear that both David and Eckard are okay, but this is becoming too much. When will enough be enough?
There's a good point that my friend Zanele made on her personal Facebook account (Sorry, can't link to her profile as it's private)
"Why do we only start to care about crime when it affects celebrities? Of course they are people just like us and none of them deserve this treatment. Hence we should show crime the same rate of disapproval, only then will it leave our country."
While I agree, I also think it's important to note that at LEAST crime is now being highlighted in a more publicized way. You as a reader are on ZAlebs to find entertainment, or Now.co.za to find news- then you see these kinds of stories. We need to stop being afraid to talk about crime and start taking it by the horn.
