The winner of the 2017 MTV Base VJ search was recently announced and to the surprise of many, 21-year-old Kuhle Adams from Port Elizabeth did not take home the crown despite her apparently large support base and great publicity team.
That honor went to 26-year-old Tshego Mosupye from Pretoria who was crowned on Sunday and has now joined the likes of Sizwe Dhlomo, Fikile Moeti, Nomuzi Mabena, Vanessa Mdee and Sandile 'GQ' Ntshingila as part of team MTV.
Nomzamo didn't win either. Kuhle is going FAAAAAAR! #MTVBaseVJSearch— GenuineLeatherEkse (@Khens_Kent) August 27, 2017
Thus far, Adams has been gracious about losing out to Mosupye - perhaps that is because she shares the sentiments of many; even without the title, she is going to be a star. Which is exactly why she could use Nomzamo Mbatha's career trajectory as a case study for building her own career.
Like Adams, Mbatha had a large support base (myself included) and she still didn't get the number one spot. After dealing with the bitter taste of what felt like defeat Mbatha forged on and went on to become an award-winning actress with a burgeoning international career.
In addition to talent (and vision), Mbatha has a killer team behind her. Based solely on the publicity Adams has enjoyed thus far, we're assuming she does too.
Adams also has a memorable, edgy persona and a trendy dress sense.
If she uses those things to her favour while grabbing the opportunities that will take her where she wants to be, Kuhle Adams will be well on her way to becoming SA's next biggest ZAleb.
