The charismatic singer of Afro-pop group, Malaika has heeded the call to producing a gospel music album titled Wonders of Mercy.
In a statement, Bongani explained that the album was initially titled Gospel According to Bongani but a church sermon one Sunday morning lead to him to change the album's name to Wonders of Mercy.
One Sunday as we (with wife Dinolani) were attending church, the message of the day was "Wonders of Mercy". As the pastor was preaching we looked at each other and said that's it....that's the name of the album. We then changed the name of the album to the befitting Wonders of Mercy because God has been truly merciful to us. Said Bongani.
After stalling to release a Gospel album for years now, Bongani was then inspired by his single titled Ke tshepile wena which lead him to finally releasing a gospel album.
I finally decided to heed the calling after I had been avoiding it for some time. It has finally caught up with me and I must say this has brought about such fulfilment inside of me, and my fans agree with this welcome and life empowering direction. Said Bongani
The album was produced by the talented Lebogang Morolo who has worked with the likes of Ntokozo Mbambo, Joyous Celebration, Nqubeko Mbatha and Shota.
Bongani believes that his first single Ke Tshepile Wena embodies what the whole album is about.
We wanted a song that is a cross over and also highlights the mood of the rest of the album, that's how the elevating track was born, and the work speaks for itself. You just have to watch the emotion it evokes to those listening to it, and then you will agree that this was just the perfect launch pad for this direction in my music career.
If you're a former Malaika fan we have no doubt that you will sure enjoy Bongani's Gospel offering.
