Less than a week after Mos Def joined the line-up of South Africa's new online radio station‚ The Eye and debuted his show, co-hosted by Ferrari Shepard, he has to leave the country.

Speaking at a briefing in Pretoria earlier today‚ Home Affairs director-general Mkuseli Apleni‚ confirmed that American rapper and actor, Mos Def (also known by his birth name Dante Terrell Smith and stage name, Yasiin Bey), will leave the country on Tuesday evening and that the charges levelled against him will be withdrawn in his absence.

His immigration troubles began when he tried to leave the country without proper travel documents earlier this year.

Bey was was arrested in Cape Town back in January when he tried to leave South Africa using a World Government of World Citizens passport‚ which is not recognised by South African authorities.

This after he reportedly entered the country with a US passport that had a visitor's visa which was valid until February.

He had brought his family along and their visas allegedly expired in 2014. As such he was accused of illegally helping them to stay in the country.

According to Times Live, he then appeared in the Bellville Magistrate's Court on charges relating to contraventions of the Immigration Act.

He has since apologized for the matter but Home Affairs in not having it.

“For his conduct‚ Mr Smith Bey will be declared an undesirable person‚ by the Director-General of Home Affairs in terms of Section 30 on the Immigration Act of 2002. He will therefore not qualify for a port of entry visa or admission to the republic‚” Apleni said.
