Earlier this month, we invited YOU, the ZAlebs reader to vote in the first ever ZAlebs awards and now that voting is closed, we’re revealing which ZAlebs came out tops in each category according to you.

While the year 2016 gained notoriety for being one of the worst years in existence, 2017 had enough ups and downs to keep everyone happy. Through it all however we have had some interesting developments in the local music scene, both on the airwaves and behind the scenes.

Artists such as Cassper Nyovest, AKA, Shekhinah and Emtee who all had notable releases this year are just some of the artists who left an indelible mark on the local pop scene.

shekhinah rose gold album

Shekhinah thrilled audiences with the release of her much anticipated album, Rose Gold

which has been getting rave reviews across the board. The fact that you hear her smash hit, ‘Suited’ everywhere you go is just proof of how well baby girl is doing.

AKA x Anatii 10 Fingers

AKA on the other hand chose to collaborate with long time friend Anatii to make magic on their joined effort titled ‘Be Careful What You Wish For.’

In addition to providing young South Africans with party bops in the form of ‘10 Fingers’ and ‘Don’t Forget to Pray,’ the rapper has now begun the transition into business man with the launch of his umbrella company, The Beam Group and well as his subsidiary, Beam Digital, which has a number of interestingly innovative ideas in the pipeline.

Let’s not forget the multiple, multi-million rand endorsement deals he clinched this year alone.

emtee manando album

Emtee’s Manando was a drop for the culture which saw him receive crazy amounts of love from the streets. It was momentarily overshadowed by his unforgettable “oops moment” but we have since moved on from that and we’re wondering if he’ll ever address it in a song…?

Cassper Nyovest

Lastly, we have Cassper Nyovest who took the crown in this category.

From achieving a combined 10 million digital streams and album sales (and the drama that followed) to filling up FNB Stadium, buying himself and his parents new homes, buying a new Bentley to match the one he already had and opening a Family Tree store - it is no wonder you voted him the most successful artist of 2017 by such a wide margin.
