The cast of Mzansi Magic's highly popular prison drama, Lockdown, have been teasing us with mysterious behind-the-scenes shots for weeks but nothing could have prepared us for news of Pamela Nomvete's return to TV for the upcoming season.
Nomvete will play the role of prison governor 'Deborah' when the show returns on Mon, 09 October 2017.
Season 1 wrapped with a shocking finale that saw Warden Sharon Zulu hauled off to jail and Governor Beauty demoted from her treasured position. As such, season 2 picks up in the aftermath, digging deeper into the characters that make up Thabazimbi Women’s Correctional Service; from the tough-as-nails, Tyson (Lorcia Cooper) to celebrity jailbird Monde (Zola Nombona) and Mazet (Dawn Thandeka King) as they find their feet and fight for survival in the midst of a shake-up that is caused by new arrivals on the scene.
Joining the cast alongside Nomvete will be the infamous Linda Sebezo (who is popularly known to Mzansi Magic viewers as Sharon D). Sebezo will be playing the role of "the most dangerous inmate in South Africa, Maki Magwaza."
"Maki seeks revenge on the woman who took her son away from her and everyone will soon get to see that spilling blood is something that comes naturally to Maki," explains Mzansi Magic in a statement.
Nomvete and Sebezo will be joined by Kalushi actor, Thabo Rametsi, who will play Simon Banda, Deborah’s clueless son.
Another exciting narrative shift for this season will be MaZet's position as the prison's new top dog following her brief escape as Tyson has withdrawn in the wake of the loss of her brother to cancer.
Lockdown Season 2 premieres Monday, 09 October on Mzansi Magic (DStv Channel 161).
