Almost a week after the kwaito-inspired parody single ‘Do You Like My Zondo?’ was placed online, it’s been played over 50,000 times on Soundcloud and Youtube. The song has also been featured in some of South Africa’s major news websites and gossip blogs.

The results of the song came from Mpumi Mlambo from campus radio station Voice of Wits FM  who had a minor brainwave while playing late Kwaito artist Zombo's self-titled single ‘Zombo’. She started replacing the word ‘Zombo’ in the song with ‘Zondo’ during her show. She then got together with Skhumbuzo Tuswa who created the rest of the lyrics and production, and Zabalaza Mchunu who also featured on the vocals. The parody song that came out of this was an instant hit, embedding itself into online conversations around South Africa.

The original song is called 'Zombo' by Arthur Mafokate

The VOW FM team have definitely outdone themselves and are showing that there’s a lot of talent in the campus radio industry. At the rate that they’re going at the moment, we won’t be too surprised if we get another hit from them soon.
