Every now and then, your faves use their star power to call on their famous friends to ask them to work on projects with them.
From recording album skits like Bonang did with Reason’s ‘Audio High Definition’ and Dineo, Altovise Lawrence and more did for Solo’s ‘Dreams.B.Plenty’ to featuring in a full on video - usually as a love interest, it’s interesting to see them do something different other than what they are known for.
Here’s a countdown of SA’s most famous video boys:
AKA in Bongi Mvuyana’s “I Wonder” video
Supa Mega publically announced that he was a fan of Mvuyana’s music after hearing the single back in 2013. He later agreed to appear in the songs official video. Their chemistry was off though. They were supposed to be portraying the image of a couple that - despite their differences - was deeply in love and it just didn’t show.
Perhaps if we’re right, and Queen B is the star of his upcoming music video for ‘The World is Yours’ then we’ll finally get to see him pull off that chemisty.
Luclay Misoya in Zahara’s “Loliwe” video
The video for the smash hit aired shortly after Luclay’s appearance on that year’s season of Big Brother Africa and we’re wondering if he got the gig based on his talent as an actor or the fact that Zahara may have been a fan of BBA.
The couple are #DateGoals as they go sit under a tree, beside a lake (probably in some park) and write a song together before Zahara serenades the rest of the people in the park and then takes a bike ride into the sunset alongside her love.
Cassper Nyovest (and Brighton Ngoma) in Bucie’s “Easy to Love” video
The gorgeous Bucie pulled in the big guns for this one scoring not one but two famous video boys in the form of rapper, Cassper Nyovest, and actor, Brighton Ngoma (who plays Quinton on the eTV soapie, Scandal).
Brighton plays the monied hot shot who apparently has dololo personality and feels he has to mac women using his money (yawn, we’ve all come across one of those right ladies?). Cassper Nyovest on the other hand plays the shy assistant who can’t see that the girl is into him until she actually makes the first move.
Not only do we think the music video is great, we just love the song. Who wouldn’t want a man like the one Bucie describes in the song?
And it also serves as a lesson to the dudes who assume every girl is after money; some of us will let life humble you by letting the chilled guy in the background brick you whenever you shela.
Vuyo ‘Gadaffi’ Dabula in Mafikizolo’s “Kucheza” video
Seeing as Mafikizolo is a duo, they went for the Bow Wow x Ciara ‘Like You’ vibe and each got their own famous love interests for this video.
Theo got rapper (and all around bad bad), Nadia Nakai, while Nhlanhla got one of South Africa’s favourite man crushes, Vuyo Dabula (who plays Gadaffi on Generations).
Tbo Touch even makes a cameo in the video.
Maps Maponyane in Fifi Cooper’s “Kisses” video
The first time we saw this video, we were like “lol, what an odd pairing.” No shade to Maps or Fifi, we just don’t believe the idea of them as a pair.
The visuals were ‘tlean’ as the kids call it these days, it would have just been more believable if she was paired with someone else.
The narrative for the video is that Fifi brings new dude (played by Maps) to a house party where she knows her ex (played by AB Crazy) will be. If that’s the story when we get why they pairing of Maps and Fifi feels so disingenuous.
