Police could soon arrest the people responsible for Senzo Meyiwa's death. The Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper was shot and killed in October 2014, while visiting his girlfriend and baby mama Kelly Khumalo.
Sources have revealed to The Citizen that police are on the verge of making a breakthrough. Three suspects have reportedly been identified.
"We now know who the suspects are and it is just a matter of locating them," said a source. According to the paper, police have launched a manhunt after three men "had been positively linked" to the football star's death.
National police spokesperson Lieutenant-General Solomon Makgale told The Citizen: "All I'm prepared to say at this stage is that investigations are progressing very well."
Speaking to the Sunday Tribune, Senzo's father said police had told him about the possible arrest of his son’s suspected killers.
"I do not want to tip them off by giving more details, but police are in hot pursuit. These are well-known killers who get paid for their services. We need to get closure on whose instructions this was carried out."
