Thuso Mbedu is a South African actress whose work has gained her so much fame even internetionally.. She was nominated for an Emmy Award for her role in the telenovela Is'Thunzi, which was called one of the most compelling television programmes on South African television.

Thuso Mbedu was born on the 8th of July 1991. She is turning 29 this year.

Thuso Mbedu Family


Thuso Nokwanda Mbedu was born and raised in Pelham, a borough of Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal. Her mother passed on due to a brain tumour when she was 4 years old. She was raised by her grandmother as her mother had seperated with her father before she was born. Her granny’s name was Thokozile, while her mother was called Gladness.

Thuso did not have a relationship with her father until when her mother passed on. Her father passed on in 2012 and shortly after that in 2013, her grandmother was laid to rest. Thuso has a sister, Nomalungelo Mbedu, that she is very close too.

Thuso Mbedu Education


Thuso went to Pelham Primary School and attended Pietermaritzburg Girls High School. When Mbedu was eighteen, she attended the University of Witwatersrand, where she studied Physical Theatre and Performing Arts Management, resulting her graduating with an honours. In 2012, she attended the Stella Adler Studio of Acting in New York, USA


Thuso Mbedu Career


Thuso landed a role on Isibaya in 2013. In late 2014 she had a small role in the second season of the Mzansi Magic soapie isiBaya, before landing her role as journalism student and wild child Kitso on Scandal!. She then had a guest role as Kheti on the second season of the SABC 2 teen drama series Snake Park.

After being jobless for six months, Thuso landed her first starring role in television in the Mzansi Magic teen drama series Is'thunzi, which premiered in October 2016. In the series she played Winnie, a sassy go-getter who dreamt of marrying a rich and famous rugby player only to have her dreams dashed when she was exiled to go live with her strict aunt in Bergville, KwaZulu-Natal. While filming a rape scene for the show, she suffered from a panic attack.

In 2018, Thuso bagged a role as one of the leading actresses on Generations: The Legacy. According to Sunday World, it was alleged that Thuso was cast to replace Thuli Phongolo & Andisiwe Dweba whose characters have been written off the show.

She also got to be part of the Forbes List under 30, a list of entrepreneurs that have the zeal to change the world and make it a better place.


2019 saw her make a breakthrough in the international television space. She landed a role of playing Cora in The Underground Railroad. The series was based on the best-seller novel with the same title by Colson Whitehead.

Thuso Mbedu Boyfriend


The actress was at many times rumoured to be romantically involved with Dr Musa Mthombeni. Once, Thuso publicly turned down Musa and he his heart was distraught. Musa was ready to deliver the cows that were needed to have Thuso's hand in marriage. However, Thuso kindly rejected the offer and politiely said 'it would never say happen. Our advice, NEVER say NEVER. 

However, the two have come out and publicly declared that they are just friends and there's nothing going on between them. Thuso made this clear during an interview with DJ Fresh on the Fresh breakfast show. 

In a twist of events, early last year Thuso received a gift from Musa and this made her love life the talk of the town yet again. She received a bunch of red roses from the doctor and she had this to say, 

The sweet caption read:'' Ahaawu a whole 100 roses Boi?.'', she continued to write:'' Thanks Dokotela.''
Later in the year, Thuso was also rumoured to be linked to DJ Sbu, which she denied. Can the lady catch a break from being romantically inclined to men she has no interest in? 


Thuso Mbedu Car


It seems like our girl has always been the Mercedes type and she's owning them all. In October 2018, Thuso splashed photos of herself in a brand new red Mercedes Benz. Rumours started circulating that she had bought herself the sleek machine. She went ahead to explain that her car is named Joy after her late mom and grandmother.

The actress seems to be doing pretty well for herself and there is no stopping her on her path to greatness.
