Striped Pearl

We've covered trends quite extensively here on Zalebs, looking at what's in for the season, and it looks like one particular trend we've highlighted from the recent SA Menswear Fashion Week is becoming a celebrity favourite.

As you can see, in spite of the trend coming off our menswear shows, women are embracing it too. Granted, but now how do you get into the vibe?

Here are a few tips on how you can wear stripes without looking like you are from the wild (hey, zebra!)

Avoid wide, horizontal stripes as they can make your body look wide. That is code for "fat". No flattering. If you are going to go for these types of stripes, limit them to tops. Pair this with a solid colour jacket. Suit jackets preferably, as this could make for a slim, professional or casual look. my personal preference is navy blue and white stripes with either a black or navy blue suit jacket. Whether you rock this with slim white or black denims is up to you as both look fresh.

Another way of wearing you horizontal stripes - which are all over the place in retail stores right now - would be to go for an item with thinner dark colours. So, for example if it's black and white stripes, take an item where the white stripes are bolder than the black.

Vertical stripes are ideal for bottoms, because unlike the horizontal variety, they avoid the body broadening visual effect that makes you look much bigger than you probably are.

Hope this helps. Now go 'head and show your stripes!
