When you spend as much time in the limelight as these ZAlebs have, people get so used to seeing your face and equating it with success that they assume that you have fallen off once you leave life in the public eye.
What they do not understand is that fame is not all that it is cracked up to be and once some people get a small taste of it and realize what it really requires, they no longer feel that it is worth the sacrifice.
Check out the ZAlebs who decided that life was better behind the scenes:
1. Mmabatho Montsho
The former actress best known for her roles in Generations (pre-Legacy), Rhythm City and Jacob's Cross has since become a kick ass director and producer who has since directed a brilliant web series focusing on women and sex as well as a few episodes of MTV’s educational drama, Shuga.
Although we miss her on screen, we much prefer seeing what her mind can create behind the camera.
2. Charl Timotheus
If Ziggy wasn’t your MCM before MCM was even a thing, are you even African? The former actor, who was recently caught up in that Bruno Mars joke is actually a producer on the eTV morning show, Sunrise.
South Africans remember when Bruno Mars acted on ETV's Backstage? pic.twitter.com/15IyKIEf87— ★ Lebo ♏★ (@Hiltch10) June 1, 2017
At least he still has a sense of humor
I'm older... so technically Bruno looks like me 😂— Charl Timotheus (@CharlTimotheus) June 1, 2017
Speaking of Ziggy, during the show, Charl did that thing actors all do when they have a “twin” and he played both parts but now that we know he and Bruno kinda look alike…
😂😂😂 definitely... He should've played Xander dont you think😂, he ticks all the right boxes— ★ Lebo ♏★ (@Hiltch10) June 1, 2017
3. JR Afrika
Every Time anyone mentions Tabure Thabo Bogopa Junior, most people say “Make The Circle Bigger JR” as a way of clarifying which JR is being discussed.
Although that is his biggest hit to date, JR is not a one-hit wonder guys! And even though he mostly does features now, JR manages a few artists while producing songs for others.
Plus he’s only 30, there is no need to act like he's been MIA for a long time.
4. Nozipho Nkelembe
In our eyes, Nkelembe’s time in front of the camera has been short lived but she seems to be doing great as a casting director and language and dialect coach for shows such as eKasi+’s drama series Hustle and the SABC2 telenovela Keeping Score.
5. Tony and Sthandiwe Kgoroge
The couple, who have been married since 2002 have also been acting less and directing and producing more, although Sthandiwe had a fairly recent stint in “The Road” and MTV’s “Shuga.”
6. Aaron Moloisi
Following his role in Generations alongside Thami Mngqolo(Senzo), Molosi now wears a producer hat for the SABC 3 show “Driving in Heels.”
7. Zam Nkosi
Nkosi is another one of South Africa’s original MCM’s. The former media personality currently fulfills the role of co-owner & MD, Red Pepper Pictures and Executive Director Of the Phezulu Group of Companies.
8. Karin van der Laag
Karin played Maggie on Isidingo but she has now transitioned into a casting director so if you’re an actor who is dying to make your big break, she is the person to contact.
9. Thishiwe Ziqubu
The Hard to Get actress is actually one heck of a script writer. An award winning script writer in fact. Ziqubu along with the rest of the writing team for the e.tv soapie Rhythm City have actually won a SAFTA for their work.

10. Xolile Tshabalala
Before making her re-entry into the acting world in the SABC drama Ingozi, Tshabalala was working as a producer on local TV shows and films.
In addition to that, she also told True Love,“I would rather be absent than to not feature in a great story. I’m always seeking to be part of productions that support the African agenda. Luckily stories like that always find me. I won’t be on TV just for the sake of being on-screen. There always has to be integrity in what I’m part of and I must take pride in it.”
