Music has evolved a lot through the years but good music will always be good music. We are reminiscing about three of the best Kwaito guy groups of all time.
Having grown in a home full of brothers who have a deep love for music rubbed off on us, we started seeing music as not only just music but a language that was part of our daily lives.
One genre that we relate very well with is Kwaito, and when it comes to Kwaito music, South Africa has the best Kwaito groups. Today our main focus is on Kwaito guy groups: Alaska, TKZee, and Trompies.
Alaska used to be a group of five talented men before the passing of one group member, Les Ma-ada in 2013 leaving Lucky "Mlakana", Thabo Tsotetsi, Andrew Moloisane, and Sphiwe "Picat" behind.
The group kept us enchanted with their dance style and we promise you whenever we rock our All Star converse we just want to dance to Alaska's hit song, Accuse. Alaska hails from the streets of Soweto and was first noticed by one of the best music producers in the country, Oscar "Oskido" Mdlongwa.
The group's third album Halloween earned them South African Music Awards (SAMA) for Best Kwaito Album, Best Group, Best Single and Best Kwaito Single.
Trompies did not only make hits after hits but they also made a fashion statement with their colorful costumes. Their 1997 single Magasman featuring the late Lebo Mathosa will forever be one of our favorites from the group of four consisting of Mahoota, Spikiri, Donald Duck, and Jakarumba.
