Afro-Soul musician, Simphiwe Dana is set to release her biography titled A Renegade Called Simphiwe which was written by professor of African literature Pumla Gqola. The book will officially launch to the public on the 4th of July but will be available in stores nationwide by the 24th of June. The book will not only be a biography of the Xhosa singer but it will also be an analysis of Dana and the world she lives in.
Dana burst onto the music scene with her 2005 debut album Zandisile which gave us her hit single Ndiredi and garnerd Simphiwe a SAMA nomination for Newcomer of the Year and Best Jazz Vocalist in 2005.
Despite her sometimes controversial rants on Twitter, the most popular one being the feud she had with DA leader Hellen Zille, Dana has decided to concentrate on a more positive approach by tweeting messages that aim to uplift the youth of our country.
Her latest tweet read: “There is much reason to celebrate today. I am not despondent. Afrika will be great! Tell somebody!”
In May, Dana graced the cover of Rolling Stone South Africa discussing her journey as a musician in South Africa.
Will you purchase a copy of Simphiwe's book? It should be interesting to read about her views on Africa and South African politics, something she has been particularly vocal about in the past year.
