Right on the back of her incredible coverage at the 2019 Academy Awards, the star has revealed that being South African is actually an advantage right now. Anele At The Oscars was not only a trending hashtag, but an incredible moment for one of the most dedicated media personalities in South Africa over the past few years.
And it looks as if the door could be open for other South Africans to do the same. While probably still waiting for the magic of the Oscars red carpet to finally sink in, Anele reflected on the night and noted that when people heard she was from South Africa, their attitude towards her changed.
Anele has a point too. A quick look around will show you that South African entertainers are slowly but surely growing in global prominence. This week alone, Black Coffee announced collaborations with Diplo and Kelly Rowland before joining Anele at the Oscars; While Trevor Noah's Oscars joke was a highlight on the night.
Let's not forget Pearl Thusi, Bonang Matheba, Cassper Nyovest and Nomzamo Mbatha who are Hollywood regulars at this point in time; while Minnie Dlamini's sporting ventures have also taken her across the globe. Anele's point is bigger than the red carpet - Mzansi entertainment is growing in leaps and bounds!
But it wasn't just South Africa's "hot" status that secured her interviews. As many have mentioned, Anele was extremely well prepared for her role on the night. Mantsoe Pout spoke to this when she said about her 947 Colleague:
"I think what makes this so special is how well researched Anele is. She's so badass at researching whatever she's about to do. You'll never catch her off guard and I really admire that. #AneleAtTheOscars I'm in awe, I won't lie! 10/10."
Meanwhile Penny Lebyane noted just how passionate Anele is about entertainment:
What a time to be alive. As an aside, abo "We don't have celebrities in SA" - at what point are we allowed to take our industry seriously and start honouring the celebs who are doing the most?
