Following the South African Music Rights’ Orgnization (SAMRO)’s announcement that they were cutting ties with 999 boss, Arthur Mafokate, a number of people took to social media to weigh in on the matter.

But it turns out Mafokate had no idea that he had been let go… On his birthday of all days…

Responding to entertainment commentator, Phil Mphela, Mafokate stated “Wow! Did I miss something?” to which Mphela responded “they didn’t tell you? Well, Jerry Mnisi is quoted on behalf of the board in a statement following this morning’s press release. You are fired.” Mphela’s tweet was accompanied by a screenshot of an excerpt of the statement sent out by SAMRO.

As explained earlier, the music body made their intentions public via a statement which read “in the SAMRO board meeting held on the 28 June of 2018, the board resolved that notice be given to Mr Mafokate of the decision to initiate the process to remove him from the SAMRO board as a non-executive director.”

This after they stated their intention to do so depending on the outcome of his case brought forth by his ex-girlfriend, Busisiwe ‘Cici’ Twala.
