Banks Are Coming For HHP's Home

Banks Are Coming For HHP's Home

Jul 08, 2019, 04:46 PM

They say the dead should "rest in peace" but it's been anything but a peaceful departure from this earth for Jabulani "HHP" Tsambo. The latest saga involves part of the late rapper's estate after reports emerged this weekend suggesting that the banks were circling around his home following a series of overdue mortgage payments.

A frightening report in this weekend's Sunday World contained the ugly details of a dispute that appears to have broke out between Nedbank and those entrusted with preserving HHP's estate. They claim that Nedbank is coming after HHP's Randpark Ridge home, which has now been left to his son Leano, is behind on payments which amount to a total of nearly R55,000.

Further to that, the amount that remains unpaid on the bond is a staggering fee of R775,000 - a fee that the bank feels will be enough for them to repossess and sell the house if a resolution is not reached. Furthermore, they allege that the house owes the City of Johannesburg over R14,000 in unpaid expenses.

So where did it all go wrong for the household? For starters, the home is owned by HHP's company, Hip Hop Pantsula Productions but since the rapper's death nobody, including his outspoken business partner, has moved in to settle the amount owed.

The court papers filed by Nedbank's attorneys last week state the following:

"The defendant failed to comply with the terms and conditions of the agreement by failing to make monthly instalments as contemplated. The monthly instalments as at 2 May 2019 were arrears in an amount of R54,104.56, which the defendant, notwithstanding demand, has failed to pay to the plaintiff,"

HHP's family spokesperson is singing a completely different tune, however.  Nkululeko Ncana who has defended HHP's legacy from the moment he passed away, slammed the bank for not bothering to contact the family. Speaking to SowetanLive, when he said:

"People are cutting corners because the bank did not send any SMS or letters to the family complaining about the arrears. We are indeed shocked as the family and we will engage the lawyers to deal with the matter accordingly,".

This is just the latest twist in the complicated tale that is HHP's left-over estate. Much of this year was dominated by the build-up to the SAMAs which saw a battle over who between HHP's widow, Lerato Sengadi, and his business partner had the right to receive the rapper's Lifetime Achievement Award.

We get the feeling this won't be the last battle involving HHP's legacy to make headlines this year.
