Malefu, who was played by talented actress Moshidi Motshegwa, was written out of the story last month and fans of the popular Mzansi Magic telenovela can't handle this.
Moshidi confirmed her dismissal from The River at the beginning of February 2018 when she said:
“They (Directors and Producers) said they don't have a story for Malefu. It's as simple as that, that is what the producers have said. I am repeating what the producers said.”
However, fans of the show (and indeed the character) have refused to take her dismissal lightly and are actively petitioning for Malefu's return to The River. A Change.org petition has already garnered close to 400 votes and appears to be gaining momentum:
Whether or not this petition has an impact remains to be seen, but one thing is for certain, Malefu (and Moshidi) had more fans than Tshedza Pictures might have anticipated.
Moshidi's dismissal from The River was a shock to many, but the actress believes that her feud with costar Larona Moagi led to her being fired from the show. Moshidi felt that Larona needed training as an actress:
“We can’t cast people from Instagram, give them a huge role and not give the support,” said Motshegwa. "I even said the meetings (with the producers) that Larona is struggling because she’s not an actress."
Do you think that the petition to bring Moshidi Motshegwa's character, Malefu, back to The River will bare fruit?
