Good things come in pairs... or at least we think they do. Which is why it's a sad moment in entertainment to see AKA and Blaq Smith's relationship come to an end.
For those who may have been in the dark for the past few years, Blaq Smith has been AKA's resident photographer and videographer, following him around the country and documenting most of the moments in both his personal and professional life. But Blaq Smith seems to have moved on to greener pastures as AKA is on the hunt for a new photographer.
Blaq Smith, whose real name is Kopano (he refuses to reveal his surname) has been working with AKA for about two years (maybe more). According to a City Press interview, the 24-year-old's work caught AKA's eye after a shoot he did with Yanga which prompted AKA and his creative director to reach out to the young man.
For the past week or so however, Supa Mega has been giving photo cred to Thotloetso Kutlwano Mogotsi (aka @tkmogotsi) but seeing as he's advertising the vacancy on social media, it seems Thotloetso may not be a permanent addition to the Beam Group team.
Although AKA and Blaq Smith are of the belief that they "made it cool" for celebrities in SA to have personal photographers, their working relationship was never meant to be a permanent one.
In a past interview with Huffington Post, the photographer spoke of plans for the future that had nothing to do with documenting the rapper's life.
"I just want to travel more — to see the world and to learn... And I'd love to try working with different brands. Apparently I have a social media influence and I think I could use that to work with brands and put them on as well," he explained.
Rumor has it that he has been offered a great gig working with the Motsepe Foundation which is doing some great things this year - including bringing former U.S President Barack Obama to South Africa to deliver the Nelson Mandela Centenary lecture in addition to working with the Global Citizen network to bring a number of American superstars to South Africa for a benefit concert in December.
No word about whether their "split" was amicable but we certainly hope it was.
He also no longer has a road manager...
